What the (F)ragrance?

If you flip over our products you’ll see the term “fragrance” listed as one of the ingredients. What you may not know is that the use of the word “fragrance” has become a hotly debated issue. Due to U.S. regulations, companies are not required to disclose the ingredients that go into their “fragrance” or “flavor.” While this is great at protecting proprietary formulas from copycats, it quickly became a backdoor for all sorts of sketchy ingredients to be brought in.

Our fragrance formulas are put through the same rigorous testing as the rest of our ingredients, and we are proud to say that they are 100% Curie Clean.

Don’t just take our word for it. Our fragrance formulas are available on our website so that there is no room for doubt. You can find a complete list of every essential oil, plant isolate, and safe synthetic that goes into each scent–including where it’s sourced from and its purpose–in the "Full Ingredients List" section on our product pages.

We love our essential oils, but using safe synthetics allows us to ethically source and produce larger quantities of the ingredients we need to supply all of our products. We’re not willing to destroy natural resources just from a desire to be 100% natural. So if a fragrance note we want to use is unsustainably sourced, we prefer to use a synthetic version that still meets our safety standards without harming the environment.

By combining natural and lab-made ingredients we get safe, clean products with staying power that don’t leave us panic sniffing our pits any time we sweat. We want to leave a greener Earth than when we started, and we are committed to reducing our environmental footprint in any way that we can. All of our packaging is 100% recyclable, and our shipping mailers, shipping boxes, deodorant sticks, and tubes are made of post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials. That means that the plastic water bottle you recycled yesterday might become part of the Curie Deodorant you buy today.
